About Me.
Student at Oregon State University
My name is, Nicole Ognibene and I’m a Senior at Oregon State University, double majoring in Apparel Design and Merchandise Management.
I grew up in Orange County, California and graduated from Foothill High School. Since then, I moved to Oregon, where I have found the time to play a very active role within the Oregon State community. I have been a part of the OSU Fashion Organization for the past 4 years holding leadership positions for the past 3 years. I have also been a part of producing the DHE Spring Fashion Show, as part of the Designer Committee. In addition to these activities I have also been able to actively participate in the OSU Elite Dance Team for the past 4 years performing at various philanthropies and school sponsored events. Through these activities, I have been able to build my own leadership skills, as well as promote the leadership abilities of others.
In addition to my extracurricular activities and school work, I have also volunteered my time as a teacher assistant in an apparel construction class and a computer design class where I was able to help students further their knowledge of apparel construction along with the Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator programs. Also, for the 2011/2012 school year I was asked to act as a peer mentor for the Apparel Design and Merchandise Management LinC class.
Due to my academic GPA, involvement in campus life, and persistence in design work, I have been awarded many different scholarships and design awards. I received the Provost scholarship for the past 4 years, along with a scholarship/internship with Palmer/Pletsch. I have been on the Dean’s list and as well as the
Honor roll for my academic GPA. This past year, I was also awarded the DHE Chair’s Scholarship and the Schilling Scholarship. In addition to my scholarships I have also won various design competitions: first place in the FireDex turnout design competition, Chair’s Award at the Recycle Fashion Show, and Best Overall Collection at the DHE Spring Fashion Show, and most recently, Most Innovative Use of Material in the 2012 Recycle Fashion Show.
Through my internships with Palmer/Pletsch, I was able to take extensive apparel construction classes regarding fit along with helping edit the upcoming edition of Fashion for Real People. There was also several articles written about my experience in the Oregon Stater Alumni Magazine, the Oregon State University HHS Synergies Website along with an article in the Palmer/Pletsch Fashion for Real People newsletter and an article in the February/March Edition of Vogue Pattern Magazine. I have also had the pleasure of working for two Children’s Design firms, CachCach and Anita G, where I was able to assist the head designers in designing, creating samples, and producing their Spring/Summer 2012 and Fall/Winter 2012 collections.
I plan to graduate from OSU in the Spring of 2012 and then go on to pursue a career in design and/or merchandising.

I love reading your site and was wondering do you make most of your skirt patterns or do you buy them? And if you buy them, where from? I’ve been dying to make skirts and have the slightest clue where to start.
hey! This is the first time I read your blog and i LOVE it. I am currently majoring in Fashion Design, but I want to also major in Merchandise Marketing and I actually want to go to a real university, like OSU, because right now I’m enrolled in a small fashion school in Peru. Just wanted to hear from you how is the program at OSU and if Oregon is the place to go if you wanna get into the fashion industry.
Thanks a lot!
Just discovered your blog and love it!
I just started sewing myself about 2 years ago and like to think i have slight skills. But you my friend have pretty mad skills. I love seeing what you make in class as fashion school is a dream of mine that i don’t think will ever come to fruition at this point.
keep doing what you’re doing! i love reading it!
I just stumbled upon your site, I love fashion blogs but I wanted to find people who also sewed! I just started my first sewing class two weeks ago, and I’m ridiculously excited about it. Better late then never!
Hi Nicole! Loved reading the article about your internship with Pati Palmer and love looking at your garments on your blog. The men’s jacket you made is outstanding! Thank you for helping on the field trip while you were home! Mrs. Farr
